Ask — your library assistant

Ask is a chat that only knows your library. It searches what you saved, reads the pages you kept, and answers with citations that open the exact bookmark. It can also tidy your library for you — with your approval, and with undo.

A dot on the button means Ask noticed something in your library since you last opened it (see Proactive findings).

Citations you can trust

Every claim about your library carries a numbered citation. Hover it to see the source; click to open the bookmark. Several sources for one sentence show as a single pill (for example "3–7") that opens the list. Under each answer, Sources folds the full list — tap it to see every bookmark the answer drew on. Ask can only cite bookmarks it actually retrieved — it cannot invent one. If something is not in your library, it says so and suggests a next step instead of drifting into general knowledge.

Page text is only used for bookmarks Marqly has indexed. If a page was never indexed, Ask tells you it only has the title.

Letting Ask make changes

By default Ask only reads. In Settings → AI Assistant → "Let the assistant make changes" you can choose:

• Off — read-only. Ask still finds the items and tells you what it would change. When a change is refused, a card in the chat says so, with a Turn on button right there (it picks "Ask me first"); the box you type in also shows a read-only note until you turn changes on.
• Ask me first — every change is proposed as a card with one checkbox per item. Nothing happens until you approve.
• Small changes automatically — small, reversible changes (up to 5 items) apply at once with an Undo. Deletions and bigger batches still ask.

What Ask can change: save URLs, edit titles and notes, add/remove tags, move bookmarks between boards, create/rename/merge/delete boards, rename/merge/remove tags, and add or delete highlights. Deleting always means Trash — Ask never deletes anything permanently.

Suggested tags

Ask "what tags would you suggest for…" and the suggestions come back as chips under each bookmark, each with a +. One tap adds that tag; Add all does the lot as one change. Both can be undone like any other change.

Undo

Every change Ask makes can be undone for 30 days, from the card in the chat or from Settings → AI Assistant → Activity. Undo restores exactly what was there before — a deleted board comes back with the same link, moved bookmarks return to their boards, renamed tags are renamed back on the same bookmarks.

Proactive findings

Ask periodically checks your library for specific things worth a minute: saves from the last month with no tags, dead links, URLs saved twice, bookmarks in no board, a topic you collected heavily and then dropped, two boards that cover the same ground. Each one appears as a one-tap prompt in the panel, and the ones worth acting on are included in your weekly digest email.

Memory and privacy

Ask remembers small facts from earlier chats (a project you mentioned, a preference) to answer better next time. You can see and clear everything it remembers in Settings → AI Assistant. Your chats are included in your data export and deleted with your account.

Text from the pages you saved is treated as information, never as instructions — a page cannot make Ask do anything.

Limits

Ask runs on credits. Pro includes a monthly allowance that refills on the 1st, and a weekly share keeps it lasting the whole month. An answer that reads several pages costs more credits than a quick lookup. Near the limit Ask switches to its faster model; when the credits are used up it pauses until they refill — search and everything else in Marqly keep working.
